Earrings By Kate Richie
Last nights Logies would have been something of a lack lustre affair when it came to jewellery if it weren't for Kate Richie who wore her own pair of gorgeous diamond and South Sea Pearl drop earrings. The earrings feature a pair of large round Australian South Sea Pearls set below an intricate diamond set pattern in white gold. They are the same earrings Ms Richie wore to her wedding and you can see her wearing them in her official wedding photograph.

The Poor Beau Sancy
A lot of the important diamonds in the world such as the Hope Diamond or The Taylor Burton diamond have exciting and intriguing histories; being owned and coveted and even pilfered by famous and legendary characters. Alas, not so the Beau Sancy Diamond.
The 35ct Beau Sancy Diamond is originally from the ancient Indian mine of Golconda and has been bandied around European Aristocracy for over 500 years usually in an effort to pay off debt and satisfy creditors. The present owner, Georg Friedrich, the Prince of Prussia and head of the former ruling dynasty of Germany, would rather have the cash in his pocket. Yet again, the Beau Sancy will be put to auction on the 15th of May. It is estimated to fetch in order of $2million, which is not an exorbitant amount for a historic diamond. Then you would have to have it set in a piece of jewellery and then... where would you wear it?

Her Heart's Still In It
Do you recognise the lady in the fabulous red velvet dress? Do you know she almost single handedly ended the Cold War, caused the collapse of the Soviet Union and changed the course of Western Civilization? Joanne Herring together with US Senator Charles Wilson supplied funding and arms to the Mujahideen in Afghanistan in the 1980's. Julia Roberts played her character in the film "Charlie Wilson's War".
Ms Herring is pictured at a book signing for her new book "Diplomacy and Diamonds" held in the Jewellery Room at Saks on 5th Avenue New York. All proceeds from the book are going to the Marshall Plan Charities to help rebuild Afghanistan. Ms Herring's diamond necklet is a gift from one of her late husbands.

Angelina Jolie's Diamond Earrings

Fame and Fortune
Elizabeth Taylor's vast collection of jewellery went under the hammer at Christies New York the other night. The necklet above is La Peregrina, designed by Elizabeth Taylor and Al Durante of Cartier. The necklet features a 16th Century Natural Pearl the largest of its kind ever found. It fetched $11,842,500 at auction. The Elizabeth Taylor Diamond, which David Beckham supposedly had his eye on for Victoria was sold to a private Asian Buyer for $8,818,500. The auction raised $115,932,000 all of which goes to AIDS research.

All The Diamonds In The World
Earnest Oppenheimer was the man who, with the backing of The Anglo American Company, bought De Beers early last century and literally owned all the diamonds in the world. Last Friday Nicky Oppenheimer, pictured above, representing the Oppenheimer family interests sold their 40% stake in De Beers for US$5.1 billion. The family intend to invest the funds in other African interests outside of diamonds. In Nicky Oppenheimers own words:
"I am an African, I live there and my children live there and as far as I understand they intend to go on living there."
I think he should buy Zimbabwe...

You Didn't Really Expect Her To Hand Back The Diamond, Did You?
Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries have ended their marriage after 72 days. Ms Kardashian's mother and manager Kris Jenner has already reported that the US$2 million 20ct diamond engagement ring will be staying with Ms Kardashian. I am not suggesting that Ms Kardashian would attempt to sell the ring but if she were to try I think she would find the offers considerably less than US$2million ...she might ask Mr Humphries to make up the difference.
